Spinal Misalignment

The vertebrae and cartilage that make up the spinal column provides a conduit, the spinal canal, which protects our body’s spinal cord – the nervous system that controls and coordinates all organs and structures of the human body.

The spinal cord, beginning at the brain stem and continuing down nearly to the bottom of the spinal column, consists of nerves that carry messages back and forth between the brain and the rest of the body.

Nerves exit the spinal column in pairs and branch out to control the rest of the body. Those in the neck area branch out into your arms, from the thoracic they govern the middle of the body, those in the lumbar spine extend into the legs, and the sacral nerves control the organ in the pelvis.

Misalignments of spinal vertebrae and discs may cause irritation to the nervous system and affect the structures, organs, and functions as shown in the illustration below.
